The “Fair Racing Network” originated in July of 2019. The first attempts at video streaming races were at the Hemlock “Little World’s” Fair.

In unbearable heat and humidity, the first show was plagued with interrupted connections to the video streaming channels from trackside, overheated equipment along with mud, rain and wind.  To say the least the first, hours of trackside broadcasting were troubled.

The concept of streaming races developed from the presentation through websites talk shows. “Leclair at the Fair” hosted by Rochester’s most noted television personality and interviewer Rebecca Leclair live-streamed from the Expo Building of the Hemlock Fair lead the way.

This show is a two hour daily presentation. Each year’s offerings start the Monday before the fair’s opening day of Tuesday and concludes the Friday, the day before the Saturday close.

Starting in 2018 & 2019, Rebecca’s interviews serve the up to 40,000 patrons with information, entertainment and fair news. Patrons, vendors, showman and all that make up an agricultural fair from farm to table, home arts to industry are showcased. Simply, the best the region has to offer is showcased on the World-stage.

These broadcasts as well as the races are archived through the fair, sponsors, local media and Chambers of Commerce websites. The video streams are available live and archived from the palm of a viewers hand on smart phones to the largest screen of Smart TV’s. Viewership and return on investment for advertisers have proved promising. It is amazing that analytics in the middle of winter show viewers accessing fair events to remember how much fun fair week is for those who attend.

The pandemic of 2019 till the time of this writing stunted the growth of the Fair Racing Network and the development of the media platforms carrying programming of Races and other festival events.

Kelly Young, Executive Director of the Agriculture & New York State Horse Breeding Development Fund recognized our team’s efforts and brought support as well as her on camera talents to developing the video streaming of “Sire Stakes Racing” from New York State Agricultural Events. Her untiring efforts and advocacy are the key to the successful development of the technology, training of crews and service to audiences as well as advertisers.

In August of 2019 a video-stream broadcast from New York State’s Wayne County Fair was flawlessly executed. In 2020 the races from Goshen New York’s Historic Track were successfully broadcast serving 10’s of thousands viewers across New York State and around the globe.

Racing at the fair level historically was the founding event of most Agricultural / County Fairs. As years past, racing at this entry level lost popularity and some say the racing industry with gambling and casino related operations have overshadowed the once popular races at the fairs.

What many have discovered is Sire Stakes and other races at fairs are the entry level for horses, trainers and owners pursuing the Sport of Kings. If you are a racing fan, enjoy betting on the horses or just love the animals, the fairs are where it all begins.

If you watch the 2020 races from Goshen Historic Track New York, the Landmark series and the New York Fair Championship races are nothing short of thrilling.

Properly presented at fairgrounds and now available through video-streaming, the future of the activity is promising as race fans get to see what the future holds at the Parimutuel tracks. Who knows, betting may be a new element of fair racing in future years.
